In an interview with Chuck Todd on Meet the Press, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) insinuated that people with preexisting conditions were like automobiles that were in an accident—they should have higher premiums. Sen. Ron Johnson even blamed people with preexisting for the problems with Obamacare.
“We know why those premiums doubled. We’ve done something with our health care system that you would never think about doing, for example, with auto insurance, where you would require auto insurance companies to sell a policy to somebody after they crash their car.
“States that have… guarantees for preexisting conditions, it crashes their markets. It causes the markets to collapse. It causes premiums to skyrocket.”
It seems that Sen. Ron Johnson and majority of the Republicans don’t understand that if someone had any medical procedure, they have a preexisting condition. And just like car insurance companies, the slightest bump can make your insurance rates skyrocket. Obamacare protected people from having to pay more for preexisting conditions.
But even if they don’t understand that, their disregard for people with preexisting conditions is disgusting. They boast their “pro-life” values and then compare people to cars.
What Johnson is really saying is that if you have a preexisting condition, like having asthma, cancer, a cold, or just being a woman, you deserve to pay more to survive.
